Ex-NBA star Amar'e Stoudemire 'arrested after allegedly punching daughter'

Amar'e Stoudemire has reportedly been arrested after allegedly punching one of his daughter's in the jaw and drawing blood.

According to reports from the Miami Herald, Stoudemire was arrested on Saturday night at his condo in Miami after an alleged incident involving one of his daughters.

It is not known whether the child in question was his 17-year-old or 14-year-old daughter, which he shares with ex-wife Alexis Stoudemire. The couple has four children together in total.

The outlet reports that the child told police that Stoudemire, 40, allegedly punched her and slapped her hard enough to draw blood.

According to the outlet, Stoudemire's arrest report states: “I observed blood stains on the victim’s sweater and sweatpants. The mother of the victim showed me the photo she received from her daughter, which shows the victim crying and blood running down her face.”

It adds that - as of Sunday morning - Stoudemire remained in Miami-Dade Corrections custody and had a bond. of $1,500.

The former NBA star, who ended his career with the Miami Heat in 2016, is reportedly facing a misdemeanor battery charge after the alleged incident.

Police had reportedly attended the home after Stoudemire's daughter sent her mother a message including a photo and a "plea for help".

According to the outlet, Stoudemire had reportedly told his ex-wife their daughter was "being disrespectful" after allegedly "giving attitude" to her grandmother.

The alleged incident comes hours after Stoudemire graduated from the University of Miami with a master’s degree.

The New York Knicks had shared a photo of him in his cap and gown on Twitter, adding: "Congrats Stat! 👏 @univmiami grad."

Stoudemire had also shared the image, adding: "MBA Graduate Class of 2022. The Greatest of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his willingness to LEARN, integrity and ability to affect those around him."

The former Knicks star is a six-time All-Star, having joined the team in 2010 after eight seasons with the Suns, before leaving in a buy-out in February 2015.

As well as playing for Miami Heat and the Mavericks in his career, he also played in Israel and China, as well as serving as an assistant coach for the Nets for two seasons.

Stoudemire has yet to comment.
