Facemasks are of the utmost importance as the world adjusts to the "new normal", but one woman's "offensive" mask resulted in her being removed from an American Airlines flight.
Arlinda Johns, from South Florida, boarded an Illinois bound plane waring a "F--- 12" mask and a Black Lives Matter t-shirt, she informed Florida's Local 10 station.
The station explained that "F--- 12" is slang for "f*** the police."
Johns was asked by a flight attendant to cover her mask, and in a Facebook Live video cited by Fox News, Johns, who reportedly believes in defunding and abolishing the police, said: "Everything she asked me to do, I did."
The attendant then returned to Johns' seat a second time.
"She came back and stood over and said 'I'd better not see that other mask,' Johns told Local 10. "I said, 'Leave me alone, lady.' She stood there, she said, 'Okay, I got you.'"
After the flight attendant went to the front of the plane, Johns was asked to leave the aircraft when it was taken back to the gate.
Local 10 reports that Johns posted a video to Facebook Live where she showed herself being asked to leave the aircraft because of her mask and subsequently being removed from the airport by officers.
In an interview with the news outlet, American Airlines said that Johns "refused to follow crew member instructions to remove or cover a face mask with offensive language and although the passenger initially complied, they later continued to display the inappropriate language. After arriving at the gate, the passenger was asked to deplane."
The airline is refusing to refund the section of Johns' ticket that was unused, but said that they are "looking into" the incident.
Meanwhile, Johns said that she has consulted an attorney, and she has had no contact with the airline other than a response to one of her tweets.
In the end, she reached her destination by renting a car and driving to Illinois.
