Jamal Hinton and Wanda Dench first met when she accidentally invited him for dinner in 2016.
This year, the unlikely pair are keeping their tradition alive by getting ready to spend their sixth Thanksgiving in a row together.
Hinton was 17 when he received a text from an unknown number inviting him for Thanksgiving dinner. The message - sent by Dench - had been intended for her 24-year-old grandson, but because of a phone number mix-up, it ended up in Hinton's inbox instead.
After some initial confusion, the two sent selfies to each other to confirm the text had been sent to the wrong person. When Hinton asked if he could come for dinner anyway, Dench gave a heart-warming response: "Of course you can, that's what grandma's do...feed everyone."
Despite their difference in age, the two hit it off and decided to continue their tradition. Since 2016, Hinton has spent every Thanksgiving with Dench and her family - and it doesn't look like they'll be letting the tradition die this year.
"We're all set for year six!" Hinton, now 22, tweeted on Sunday alongside a screenshot of a text from Dench inviting him, his girlfriend Mikaela, and his family for dinner.
Speaking about their friendship, Dench, now 64, told NBC News: "I just clicked when I met him."
Hinton said to People: "It was so unexpected, but she was just so sweet. It was a reminder that there are still some good people left in this world."
Throughout the years, Hinton had documented their friendship and their annual Thanksgiving tradition on social media, often posting selfies of himself, Dench, his girlfriend Mikaela, and her husband Lonnie.
Last year, he also announced on his Instagram the tragic news that Lonnie had passed away due to complications from covid. That Thanksgiving, he, Mikaela, and Dench honored Lonnie by taking a selfie with a photo of him.
"My favorite Twitter tradition," one user commented, before another wrote: "Glad to see some things never change."
"Wholesome content I'm looking forwards to every single year," wrote a third.
