A chilling video has surfaced on social media just days after the US Coast Guard called off the search for a missing teenager who disappeared after jumping off a cruise ship.

Louisiana high school graduate Cameron Robbins reportedly leaped off the Blackbeard’s Revenge sunset cruise into the dark waters near Athol Island, Bahamas, after his classmates encouraged him to do so.

Harrowing footage taken moments after the jump was shared online and showed the 18-year-old - who was a few feet away - in just his swimming trunks in the middle of the ocean.

In the clip, he was looking up at the concerned passengers onboard who were yelling and pleading at him to grab a buoy, but instead, he drifted in the opposite direction.

The Blackbeard’s Revenge remained in the area for several hours while the crew tried to look for Robbins, in the "really shark-infested," waters, per the Daily Mail. However, the Coast Guard called off its own search two days later, after scouring over 325 square miles.

Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Spado, Coast Guard liaison officer to the Bahamas, shared a statement revealing that numerous agencies had been deployed to look for the young man.

"U.S. Coast Guard District Seven deployed multiple search and rescue assets in response to an agency assistance request from our partners in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force," he said, according to WAFB.

"'Our Coast Guard command center and aircrews based in Miami supported RBDF search and rescue efforts since the initial report Wednesday evening, and continued through Friday evening."

"We were informed by the RBDF this evening that they were suspending the active search efforts pending further developments, and were not requesting further Coast Guard assistance after notifying the Robbins family," they continued, adding: "We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins' family and friends."

Robbins was staying at Atlantis Paradise Island with a group of classmates from other area high schools.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Daniel Eiklor on behalf of his family who are going through an "unimaginable situation." The fundraiser has raised $14,480, exceeding the $10,000 target.

The donation page read: "Cameron's mother, Shari is an indescribably amazing teacher and her kindness and devotion has helped countless children throughout her career. Please donate as you can and share this fundraiser to support her and her family through this unimaginable situation."

University Lab School Director Kevin George also penned a heartbreaking statement about the teen, stating that he attended the school for all 13 years of his education.

"The University Lab School Community is praying for the best possible outcome of this situation. I have been in touch with Cameron’s family and at this time, authorities are still searching for him in the Bahamas," he wrote. "In times like these, we must come together and support each other."

"Words fall short of expressing the worry our entire school community is feeling. Extra counselors will be available on campus to speak with students and faculty who are struggling to process this news. Our thoughts are with the Robbins family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts as well," George added.
