The Paris home of the late Jane Birkin was reportedly targeted by thieves during the early hours of Wednesday morning, only a few days after her death.
The 76-year-old singer and actress died on Sunday (July 16), being discovered in bed at her home in Paris. It was revealed that she had been suffering from cancer.
And now that same home has allegedly become a target for opportunistic thieves.
An attempted burglary is reported to have occurred at the residence, according to French media outlet BFMTV, via Metro, who claim to have received information regarding the break-in from a police source.

The outlet has claimed that shortly after 4:00AM a disturbance was reported by one of Birkin's childhood friends, who had been staying at the home. Noises were heard coming from behind the back door, with police personnel being dispatched to investigate the scene after they were alerted to the commotion.
Markings were reportedly found on the front door, pieces of wood were also scattered on the floor and the metal frame of the door was also damaged. It is also claimed that neighbors waved off three individuals who had been attempting to enter the premises earlier in the day.
Beginning her career as an actress, Birkin gained international fame for her decade-long on and off-screen relationship with legendary French musician Serge Gainsbourg.
Born in London, Birkin emerged as a rising star, gaining some notoriety in the British film scene before venturing out to Paris where she caught her first big break.
Birkin starred alongside Gainsbourg in the satirical romcom Slogan and later the pair recorded the iconic duet 'Je t'Aime… Moi Non Plus' together that propelled the young British actress to a whole new level of superstardom - with the song gaining worldwide notoriety after it was banned in several countries as well as The Vatican.

The late singer would go on to record a total of 14 albums over the course of her entire career. And, of course, no mention of Birkin's legacy is complete without talking about the legendary Birkin bag.
As per InStyle, the inspiration behind the handbag came from an interaction between Birkin and Hermès' Chief Executive Jean-Louis Dumas while on a flight.
At the time Birkin was telling Dumas how difficult it was to find a bag that fit her all needs as a parent and apparently that's where the Birkin bag was born.
