It has now been confirmed that Jeremy Renner was run over by a 14,330-pound snowplow prior to the actor's hospitalization.

According to new reports, local authorities confirmed that the 51-year-old actor was "run over" by an "extremely large piece of snow removal equipment" weighing "at least 14,330 pounds."

During a press conference on Tuesday (January 3), Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said that Renner's "PistenBully got stuck" and even though the Marvel star was successful in getting it moving again, it "started to roll" while he was having a conversation "with a family member."

"In an effort to stop the rolling PistenBully, Mr. Renner attempt[ed] to get back into the driver’s seat of the PistenBully. Based on our investigation, it’s at this point that Mr. Renner [was] run over," Balaam said.

The sheriff then noted that though the accident was "tragic", no foul play was suspected.

The news comes just two days after it was reported that the Wind River actor was critically injured during a "weather-related incident."

At the time of the accident, a representative of Renner told The Hollywood Reporter that he was "in critical but stable condition."

"We can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today.

"His family is with him, and he is receiving excellent care," they added.

Taking to Instagram just hours after he was rushed to hospital, Renner posted a photo of himself from his bed, thanking fans for their support.

"Thank you all for your kind words," he wrote, adding a prayer hand emoji. "I'm too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all."

In the selfie, you can clearly see swelling and busing all over the Hawkeye star's face, while he tries his best to muster up a smile for the camera - a truly heartbreaking image for his fans.

Since it was published, the post has gotten over 6 million likes as well as thousands of comments from concerned fans as well as close personal friends.

Renner's co-stars from the iconic Marvel films banded together to wish their "brother" well.

"Continued prayers your way brutha," said Renner's co-star Chris Pratt, while Chris Hemsworth also commented saying: "Speedy recovery buddy. Sending love your way!"

Renner has lived in his remote home in Northern Nevada, where the accident occurred, for well over a decade now. Over the past week, the area had been hit with life-threatening snowfall which, in turn, left over 35,000 people without power.

We hope to see Renner back on his feet again soon!
