Presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden has ignited a Twitter storm after he said that if black people fail to favor him over Trump "then you ain't black".

Biden made the remark during a virtual interview with Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne Tha God while claiming that his presidential campaign is doing enough to reach out to black voters.

Watch Biden make the controversial remark in the video below:

"If you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't black," Biden told Charlamagne in response to the host's statement: "It's a long way until November, we've got more questions."

"It don't have nothing to do with Trump, it has to do with the fact - I want something for my community," the radio host replied.

The 77-year-old is now being accused of racism by a host of people online, including Donald Trump Jr., who wrote in a tweet: "Retweet if you think this sounds racist AF!!! Imagine if Donald Trump said this…"

Machine Gun Kele wrote: "I don't know what kind of level of comfort you have to attain to make a statement like Joe Biden did in this video clip. Qwhite something [sic]."

Tim Murtaugh added: "This, ladies and gentlemen, is why they very rarely let Joe Biden do anything that isn't completely controlled and scripted. Sometimes he accidentally says what he thinks. Like how he, a 77-year-old white man, should be the arbiter of how Black people should act."

Lauren Boebert similarly slammed the presidential candidate, writing: "Joe Biden looked a black man in the eyes today & said that he didn't need to worry about black media because of a black person has to decide between voting Biden or Trump then they aren't black. This is the most racist thing I've ever heard out of a Presidential candidate."

The controversial remark came in an interview where Biden also discussed the possibility of having a black, female vice-presidential candidate.

"I'm not acknowledging anybody who is being considered, but I guarantee you, there are multiple black women being considered. Multiple," Biden said of his search for a potential nominee for vice president.

It was at this point that an aide to Biden can be heard in the background saying: "Thank you so much. That's really our time. I apologize."
