A couple was left pretty shocked after a man broke into their home but instead of stealing things, he took a shower and made himself comfortable on their sofa.
The shocking incident unfolded last Saturday evening in southeast Nashville, leaving the homeowners stunned and prompting a swift police response.
Kerigan Nardi and her husband were enjoying a dinner date when an alert notified them of movement in their residence around 7 PM, as reported by WIS 10.
Initially, they dismissed it, assuming their dogs had triggered the motion sensor. However, their concern escalated when they remotely witnessed a man breaking into their home and casually rummaging through their belongings.
The situation took an even more unsettling turn when the intruder, identified as Samuel Smith, decided to take a shower in the Nardis' bathroom. Panicked, Nardi immediately called 911, expressing the urgency of the situation.
"Our fur babies are there. There’s a man in our house we don’t know. We just need to get home," she told the outlet.
Law enforcement responded promptly, discovering Smith in the couple's living room, wearing only a towel.
"He was naked, sitting on our couch," Nardi explained, expressing her shock and violation. "You don’t just violate people like that. It doesn’t matter what kind of psychosis you’re in. It doesn’t matter what kind of drugs you use. You don’t break into people’s houses and violate them that way."
Smith was swiftly arrested and is facing charges of aggravated criminal trespassing and possession of meth, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by the outlet.
The aftermath of the incident presented additional challenges for the Nardis. They revealed: "As he was taking a shower, in my home, he left some excrement behind. Yes, he decided that that would be a nice present for the homeowners, I suppose."
The couple had to undertake a thorough clean-up, disinfecting their room, disposing of the intruder's towel, and applying bleach to the shower.
Despite the arrest, the Nardis remain shaken, prompting them to take extra security measures. They have installed a deadbolt lock, placed a barricade on their front door, and plan to acquire another surveillance camera. They are also encouraging their neighbors to enhance their home security.
"I think that people need to just get cameras, and be careful because you never know," she said.
