A man reportedly continued his date at a burger joint mere minutes after fatally shooting a parking attendant.
The 29-year-old Houston resident had taken a woman out to eat at local burger joint Rodeo Goat on April 11 when he went outside to park his car and came across an attendant who charged the man $40 to park.
Once inside, the man, who was later identified as Erick Aguirre, discovered that he had been scammed, excused himself from the date, and went outside to confront and eventually fatally shoot the parking attendant - 46-year-old Elliot Nix.
Aguirre headed back into the restaurant, allegedly telling his date that "everything was fine" and that he'd only scared Nix. Footage shows Aguirre and his date walking around the restaurant to a table, but seemingly left to go somewhere else after he began to look uncomfortable, according to court records obtained by NBC News.
According to the outlet, Aguirre's date contacted police on April 13 - two days after the incident - after she saw CCTV images of herself and Aguirre, which had been released by authorities. The couple had already been identified by tips to Crime Stoppers.
Rick DeToto, an attorney acting on behalf of the woman told KPRC: "She wanted to do the right thing. She wanted to make sure that she came forward and told the police what she knew."
CBS subsequently reported that Aguirre appeared in court last Thursday (April 27) to face murder charges after Nix died from his injuries in hospital.
Court documents obtained by the outlet allege that both Aguirre and his date had parked their cars near the downtown Houston restaurant when Nix approached them, offering to park their cars for $20 each. Aguirre then paid the $40 and headed into the restaurant to be with his date, but was eventually told by a restaurant employee that Nix didn't actually work for the parking lot, and that he had reportedly scammed the couple.
The documents also state that an employee working at a local smoke shop not far from the restaurant saw Aguirre run to his car and grab a gun before going after Nix. Per the employee's statement, both men went out of his view but he did claim to remember hearing a gunshot before 08:00 PM.
He then reportedly saw Aguirre "nonchalantly walking back to his car with the gun in his hand" before putting the firearm back in his car, which the employee says was a white Cadillac. Aguirre then walked back to the restaurant and went inside to be with his date.
Aguirre's bond was set at $200,000, and his attorney reportedly declined to comment, per NBC.
