After hearing the news, Google Communications Manager Alex Joseph told Insider: "We are very saddened by this tragic incident involving one of our employees."

"Our thoughts are with their family, and out of respect for them and their privacy, we aren't commenting further," Joseph added in his statement.

He also revealed that the company is working with employees and grief counselors in order to provide support for those on-site. This is set to continue over the next few days.

Back in February, A GoFundMe page was set up for former Google employee Jacob Pratt after he died by suicide in his apartment back in February.

"Sadly, our son and brother Jacob Pratt passed away unexpectedly this month," the fundraiser description read. "He was a loving, kind, caring, and funny person."

He touched the lives of everyone he interacted with whether through his school, work, or personal journey," it added.

"In honor of his life, and in lieu of flowers, please consider giving money to this fundraiser," it continued, adding: "All funds will be split equally and donated to Make-A-Wish Michigan and National Alliance on Mental Illness.

"These two charities represent our son and brother and the heart he had for the people around him."

At the time of writing, the fundraiser has managed to amass a total of $11,800.

The news comes amid mass firings throughout the entire tech industry.

According to TechCrunch, global brands such as Google, Amazon, and Microsoft as well as small fintech startups and apps have been laying off their employees in massive numbers.

As per the outlet, the main reasons behind these substantial workforce reductions follows a common script, "citing the macroeconomic environment and a need to find discipline on a tumultuous path to profitability."

Last month's statistics showed that approximately 17,926 employees were laid off, which is less than half of the numbers compared to the month prior which stands at a hefty 37,109.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jacob Pratt's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
