Police took to Facebook to ask for the public's help in looking for a wanted man, but their wanted ad ended up getting quite a different reaction than the one they were hoping for.

Humberside Police - who are responsible for the East Riding of Yorkshire in the UK - posted the appeal on their social media account. It was explained in the appeal that officials are seeking help in the hunt for Robert Rimmer, who is wanted in connection with drug-related offenses. But this particular police force clearly didn't take his good looks into account.

They shared a mugshot photo of Rimmer as well as a statement, asking the public: "Have you seen wanted man 36-year-old Robert Rimmer? Officers are keen to speak to him in connection with an ongoing investigation into drugs-related offenses in our area."

However, the comments were not full of vigilant citizens as law enforcement perhaps wanted, but instead full of people who had taken one look at Rimmer's mugshot and evidently fallen for him.

Within moments of the post appearing on Facebook, a race to find the man at large began - with the police wanting to find him for very different reasons to the thirsty people commenting.

One person said: "If I find him can I keep him finders keepers and all," with a second adding: "Got a feeling there is a lot of people who wouldn't mind handcuffing this bad boy."

A third person said: "I’m sure a lot of people want him right now, so you may wanna start placing a higher bid," and a fourth concluded: "He is definitely somewhere reading these comments with a smile on his face."

One joked: "If I see him…. I won’t let you know," while another added: "if you come across him, please contact me before you call the police. Thanks."

This isn't the first time a mugshot has attracted this sort of attention. Jeremy Meeks saw his life change when his face went viral in 2014 after being arrested for possession of a gun and resisting arrest, per The Sun.

His image racked up over 75,000 likes on Facebook and earned him the nickname of the "hot felon". After his release in 2016, he became a successful model for a number of large fashion houses, gaining a reported net worth of $4 million in the process.

The Sun also reported that he currently lives in a luxury mansion and drives a $120,000 sports car. He also has a baby with TopShop heiress Chloe Green.

Who knows, maybe Rimmer can use his newfound fame to turn his life around... depending on who gets to him first!
