Polish police have broken their silence over a young woman's claims that she believes she could be Madeleine McCann after she went viral on social media.

Julia, a 21-year-old from Poland, has intrigued thousands of social media users after she went viral on TikTok claiming to be Madeleine McCann who famously went missing in Portugal in 2007.

Going by the Instagram handle @iammadeleinemcan, Julia stated that she began questioning her identity when a comment from her grandmother sparked her to look closer at Madeleine's unique features.

The 21-year-old posted that the freckles on her legs are similar to the missing British girl's and that she also has the same eye condition as Madeleine.

Julia got so much social media attention that her pleas reportedly reached Madeleine's parents Gerry and Kate McCann, who allegedly agreed to do a DNA test.

Despite the widespread intrigue into the 21-year-old's claims, which involved her alleging that she overheard her parents stating that they "took her," it would appear that the case will be going no further.

As cited by the Mirror, Pawel Noga of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wroclaw has ruled out any possibility that Julia could be the missing girl.

Speaking to the Polish outlet Gazeta, police revealed that they visited Julia's home and were presented with a birth certificate and childhood photos by her family.

This follows Julia's family allegedly releasing a statement via the Polish missing person organization Missing Years Ago on Facebook where they stated that they had childhood photographs that prove that the 21-year-old isn't Madeleine.

The statement read: "Julia also has these photos because she took them from the family home with the birth certificate, as well as numerous hospital discharges. We always tried to understand all situations that happened with Julia.

"Numerous therapies, medicines, psychologists, and psychiatrists - Julia had it all guaranteed. She wasn't left alone. Threats to our address from Julia, her lies and manipulations, activity on the internet. We've seen it all and we've tried to prevent it, to explain, we've asked her to stop," the statement continued.

"We always tried to help her get back on her feet. Julia has been of age for several years. She has moved out of the house. She refuses treatment, doesn't take medicines regularly. Julia once wanted to be a singer, a model. She always wanted to be popular."

The family reportedly went on the reveal their emotions about the situation: "What's happening now she got one million followers. We're afraid Julia will carry the inevitable. The internet won't forget, and it's obvious that Julia isn't Maddie. We are devastated at this current situation."

Madeleine, from Leicestershire in the United Kingdom, went missing on the evening of May 3, 2007, from her bed in a vacation rental in the Portuguese resort town Praia da Luz.
