A protest against Kyle Rittenhouse's acquittal on Friday night in Portland, Oregon, was declared a riot after police officers were pelted with objects thrown by protesters.
The crowd gathered in downtown Portland to protest after a jury cleared 18-year-old Rittenhouse of all charges over the fatal shooting of two men during anti-racism protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last year.
The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office declared the protest of around 200 people to be a riot around 9 PM because of "violent, destructive behavior by a significant part of the crowd."
On Twitter, Officials said protesters had damaged the gate to the city's Justice Center, which houses a police precinct and a detention center.
Distressing videos shared on social media show police and protesters clashing in Portland, with protesters chanting anti-police slogans as well as "Kyle is a terrorist".

Chris Liedle with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office told KOIN TV that "hostile" protesters threw "urine, alcoholic beverages, water bottles, and batteries" at police.
Per The Guardian, trash and debris were set on fire in the streets, with some protesters even discussing burning down the Justice Center, KOIN TV reported. By 11 PM, the crowd mainly had broken up, according to the outlet.
Portland Police Department said on Twitter that at least one person was arrested.

On Friday, November 19, a 12-person jury consisting of seven women and five men found the teen not guilty on all counts after three days of deliberation.
Rittenhouse, 18, of Antioch, Illinois, shot and killed Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, and injured Gaige Grosskreutz on August 25, 2020, with an AR-15 rifle, during protests which took place in Kenosha, Wisconsin, after the police shooting of Jacob Blake.
Watch the moment Kyle Rittenhouse breaks down as the jury delivers the verdict:
The teenager, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, had been charged with five felonies; first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
Per BBC News, Rittenhouse had denied all the charges and maintained he acted in self-defense.

His homicide trial started on November 1 and had seen testimonies from dozens of witnesses and footage taken of the night the then-17-year-old opened fire. Jurors were even played a graphic video of Rosenbaum lying still, unable to breathe after he was shot four times.
Rittenhouse's defense argued that the then-17-year-old had feared for his life last August.
