Intensive care units have been reported to be at their capacity in a third of Spanish regions, per the Metro, and the hardest-hit area is the country's capital Madrid.
The situation is so bad that the country has been forced to turn one of its ice rinks into a temporary morgue, the Madrid regional president's office told CNN on Tuesday.
According to the regional government, the ice rink morgue is a "temporary and extraordinary measure" designed to "lessen the pain of the families of the victims and the situation that's being recorded in Madrid's hospitals."
