A man who was in a relationship with an 83-year-old woman has spoken out after the couple's sudden split.

Mohamed Ibriham, a 37-year-old from Egypt made headlines when his wife, 83-year-old Iris Jones confirmed the pair's relationship despite having an age gap of 46 years.

While appearing on an episode of the British daytime TV show This Morning, Iris revealed that they had initially met on Facebook in 2019 and a year later, they decided to tie the knot in a small ceremony after keeping up with a long-distance relationship online.

During her appearance, she also revealed that she and her husband had a wild night the first time they got to spend some quality time with each other, stating that they used an "entire tube of KY jelly," which left Iris "saddle sore" also adding that her favorite sex position was "doggy fashion" - much to the surprise of the hosts.

The couple seemed to be madly in love at the time, even despite all the rumors surrounding Mohamed's intentions for marrying the British senior citizen.

Many contemplated whether the 37-year-old was just in it for financial support or a British passport, though he denied all the allegations.

"The love does not know any difference between age or countries. Iris chose me and I chose Iris," he said on the show. "I want to say for all the people who attack our love, it's none of your business, focus on your lives, go to hell. That is all."

In a separate interview with MailOnline, he added: "I don't care where we live or how rich or poor she is, I just want to be with Iris. At the end of the day, which country she wants to make her home is her choice; it can be either Britain or Egypt.

"People think I am with her for all the wrong reasons," he continued. "I know Britain is a beautiful country and a lot of people want to go there but I'm not bothered. I'm prepared to live with her anywhere in the world."

However, just two years later and the pair have now called it quits.

Iris first spoke out about the breakdown of their relationship in an interview with Closer Magazine last month, telling the outlet that their love "became hard work."

"I adored everything about Mohammed. But it became hard work. We used to have a great sex life but then, rather than making love, we ended up arguing all the time about anything and everything.

"I can’t be doing with that. I’m not a lovesick teenager. I’m 83," she added.

Instead, Iris has directed her attention to a new love in her life.

"I got [a cat] just a few days after Mohammed moved out and he’s the perfect companion. He never complains, is very quiet and beautiful to look at – I adore him," she told the magazine. "And he’s very happy here and doesn’t create a mess, I’m not missing Mohammed at all, the thing that annoyed me the most when he left was he took my tempura battered prawns that I’d planned for my dinner that night."

Now, just a few weeks on, Mohamed has spoken out too.

Taking to his personal Facebook page, Mohamed shared a photograph of himself alongside lyrics from Gloria Gaynor's hit anthem 'I Will Survive' - a pretty fitting caption given the circumstance.

"At first I was afraid, I was petrified. Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side," he wrote. "But then I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong. And I grew strong. And I learned how to get along."

I mean if there's anyone that can help soothe a broken heart, it's Gloria Gaynor.
