An Uber driver has been hailed a "hero" by the company's CEO after saving people from a fire in New York City.
Fritz Sam was driving passenger Jemimah Wei through Brooklyn on Wednesday (August 17) evening, when they spotted a four-story house fire on Classon Avenue.
The driver told CNN that he could see flames coming out of a second-floor window - but no emergency responders at the scene.
After checking for permission with Wei, father-of-two Sam parked his car and sprinted towards the fire, where he started calling to the residents inside the house in case they weren't yet aware of the danger they were in.
When neighbors couldn't say for certain whether everyone had exited the building safely, Sam didn't hesitate and ran straight into the burning house.
He found a woman on the second floor and a man on the first floor - both of whom he accompanied to safety before the fire could engulf the entire building.
Both Sam and Wei reported that firefighters arrived soon after Sam had successfully evacuated the entire house. But the Uber driver didn't stop there. Not only did he take it upon himself to comfort the residents and check that they were all okay, but Sam also raced back to his car and managed to drop Wei off in time for her flight, finishing the ride he had begun before they encountered the burning brownstone.

The passenger took to Twitter to give Sam a glowing five star review, writing: "On the way to the airport this morning and drove by a burning building, my Uber driver LEAPT out of the car and INTO the building while the rest of us screamed at the top of our lungs for people to evacuate, the first truck came, we rushed to the airport, I made my flight."
In the video below, Sam details his heroic actions:Meanwhile, she wasn't the only person who was bowled over by Sam's heroics. On Thursday, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi hailed him as an "Uber hero" on Twitter.
He tweeted: "I spoke to this Uber hero - he was thankful that someone helped move his car - all the while he was the one who ran into the building!"

Per authorities, no one was injured in the fire. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
Well done, Sam! It's everyday heroes like you that make the world a better place!
