Viewers spot BBC's embarrassing blunder during midterm election coverage before broadcaster tries to cover it up
Social media users have once again proved themselves to be particularly eagle-eyed, as they noticed an NSFW detail about the BBC's broadcast on Tuesday (November 3).
The British broadcaster was reporting on the US midterm elections, which saw the Democrats emerge victorious, handing them control of Congress for the remainder of Donald Trump's term.
The President has since claimed that the historic Republican loss, which saw states like Texas, South Carolina and Kansas turn blue for the first time in decades, was because his name wasn't on the ballot.
Trump was confident, but he has once again claimed that it's not his fault, much like he did when the Republicans lost the House in the 2018 midterms, during his first term.
While the 80-year-old claimed that he would have won 'in a landslide' if he were on the ballot, it doesn't change the fact that the Democrats will soon hold the majority of seats in Congress.
But in the background, news viewers in the UK noticed something about the BBC's coverage.
NSFW message reflected during broadcast
One BBC viewer took to X to share what he noticed when he took a closer look at the news desk during the broadcast.
TV critic, broadcaster and journalist, Scott Bryan, wrote: "BBC News errrr… you might want to check the reflection."
A quick look at the screenshot he posted revealed that the reflection of the words, 'US midterm elections', came up as something else on the desk.
Instead, it appeared as 'US midterm erections'.
The original post got over 8.8 million views, and it looked like word got back to the BBC, as in their next broadcast, they covered the reflection with some paper.
Bryan posted the new screenshots, writing: "I'm sure the papers being there is just a coincidence."
He took a couple of screenshots featuring two different news anchors, with papers on the desk to cover up the rude-looking reflection.
While many were celebrating the fact that Democrats will have more power to influence laws, stop Trump's plans, and have a bigger say in the US' political direction until at least 2028, some were focused on the BBC's blunder.
Reaction from BBC viewers
Taking to social media, one viewer joked: "If the reflection lasts more than four hours, call a doctor."
Another penned: "Clearly very passionate about the US Midterms," as a third quipped: "Will they face stiff competition from Sky News?"
"They’re going to have to open up a Department for Reflections Corrections at this rate," another tickled viewer noted.
The majority of viewers saw the funny side, but some accused them of having a 'dirty mind' in seeing the vulgar term despite it not being obvious.
