Joe Lycett has stuck by his word and shredded £10,000 after David Beckham failed to end his relationship with Qatar.

Check out the moment below:

The defiant stunt comes after the British comedian urged the former England soccer captain to end his relationship with Qatar amid the 2022 men's FIFA World Cup.

As reported by the Huffington Post, 47-year-old Beckham has been paid £10 million for his role as a Qatar ambassador.

In a video post shared on social media, Lycett sent a message to Beckham, telling the sporting legend: "If you end your relationship with Qatar I will donate ten grand of my own money (that’s a grand for every million you’re reportedly getting) to charities that support queer people in football."

"However, if you do not I will throw the money into a shredder at midday next Sunday, just before the opening ceremony of the World Cup and stream it right here.

"Not just the money, but also your status as gay icon will be shredded."

Per CNN, homosexuality in Qatar is illegal and punishable by up to three years in prison.

In response to the growing criticism, Beckham stated in a pre-recorded message broadcast at the Supreme Committee's 'Generation Amazing' youth festival in Doha: "Qatar dreamed of bringing the World Cup to a place that it had never been before, but that it wouldn’t be enough just to achieve things on the pitch - the pitch would be a platform for progress."

However, 34-year-old Lycett has remained unconvinced by any of Beckham's remarks.

You’ll be forcing me to commit what might be a crime," Lycett told Beckham. "Although even then, I reckon I’ll get off more lightly than I would if I got caught w***king off a lad in Doha."

Now, sticking to his word, Lycett has uploaded a video of himself throwing £10,000 ($11,880 USD) in a shredder. Lycett captioned the video: "A platform for progress".

The stunt has amassed a mixed response, with some people applauding Lycett for following through on his threat and shredding the money.

"This gave me so much anxiety but well done for following through," one Instagram user commented. "Shame on Beckham."

A second added: "The point is made. This protest campaign cost 10k and got people talking about an important topic. Boycott the football. You have a voice, use it."

However, not everybody was convinced, with one Instagram user commenting: "This feels really uncomfortable. The idea of shredding money during a cost of living crisis, whilst so many are struggling to even feed their families is not it for me.

"Essentially blackmailing people to cut ties with people who they have business deals with when you don't know the ins and outs of their contractual obligations is not the one. I love Joe but this just makes me really sad."
