As widely reported, Jay - from Lancashire in the UK - went missing on June 17 after he had spent the evening with two British men in an Airbnb in Tenerife.

Jay had been attending the NRG music festival with his friends, but opted to stay out when they went back to their shared accommodation.

The following morning, Jay called his friend Lucy Mae Law to say that his phone was on one percent and he was about to begin a 10-hour walk back to where they were staying.

This was the last time he was heard from.

Despite an exhaustive two-week search involving helicopters, drones, and sniffer dogs scouring the mountains in Masca, Spanish police have been unable to locate Jay and officially ended their search on Sunday, June 30.

British TV detective Mark Williams-Thomas, who traveled to Tenerife to aid in the search, has dispelled rumors about a troubling video circulating online, per the Mirror.

He clarified: "Lots of people are contacting us about a distressing video that is circulating. The video was first posted on a social media site nine years ago and therefore cannot be Jay Slater."

Although Jay’s mother, Debbie, previously suggested that her son may have been kidnapped, Williams-Thomas ruled out this possibility.

"We have no evidence at this stage to say there was any third-party criminal involvement in Jay’s disappearance. However, there are still a number of outstanding actions and therefore we remain open-minded to the possibility of this changing," he added.

He emphasized that current evidence strongly supports that Jay walked off and was on foot for at least 30 minutes off the road on a track before his last contact with friends, pinpointed accurately at 8:50AM.

These updates from the detective come after he turned his focus to an alleged stolen Rolex.

Jay had posted a video on Snapchat, boasting about the theft of a £12,000 Rolex, just hours before his disappearance.

"On route, Jay posted a Snapchat saying that they had taken a £12,000 Rolex from a person. We have been unable to validate this in terms of a reported theft. However, friends of Jay say he would not make this up and the watch was the subject of a later conversation between them," explained Williams-Thomas, via the Sun.

He also mentioned that Jay appeared frightened when he left the holiday rental where he was last seen, stating that the teenager couldn’t return to the property despite it being the most "sensible course of action."
