Man charged with murder of 28-year-old school teacher Sabina Nessa
A man has been charged with the murder of elementary school teacher Sabina Nessa.
The 28-year-old, who has been described as the "kindest, sweetest girl you could meet", was attacked as she walked to meet a friend near home in London, on Friday, September 17.
Koci Selamaj, 36, was arrested in Eastbourne, East Sussex, on Sunday, September 26, in connection with her death, per BBC News.
According to Metropolitan Police, Selamaj will be appearing at Willesden Magistrates' Court on September 28.
Per The Sun, Selamaj had been working as a delivery driver for Dominos Pizza since May 2021. The firm confirmed that he had ceased working for the company in July.
He is the second person to be arrested in connection to Ms Nessa's murder, after an initial suspect was let go on September 18.
Ms Nessa left her home in Kidbrooke at 8:30 PM on September 17 to meet a friend at a nearby pub.
Her journey - which should have taken just five minutes - would have lead her through Cator Park, which was being used "lightly" by runners and dog walkers.
However, the 28-year-old never arrived, and her body was discovered under a pile of leaves by a passerby the following afternoon.
On September 20, police formally identified the remains as belonging to Ms Nessa, but a post-mortem examination carried out at Greenwich Mortuary was deemed "inconclusive".
The year one teacher, who taught at Rushney Green Primary School in Catford, has been remembered by those closest to her.
Headteacher, Lisa Williams, described her as "brilliant".
"We are devastated by Sabina’s tragic death. She was kind, caring, and absolutely dedicated to her pupils. She had so much life ahead of her and so much more to give," she stated.
Her cousin, Zubel Ahmed, reiterated to the BBC that she was the "kindest, sweetest girl you could meet."
"We’re still in shock. It’s been a few days but it’s still not sunk in yet," he continued, adding that her parents are "inconsolable."
On September 24, campaign group, Reclaim These Streets, held a vigil for Ms Nessa on Pegler Square, Kidbrooke, which was attended by over 500 people.
Her sister, Jebina Yasmin Islam, told the grievers that she had "lost an amazing, caring, beautiful sister, who left this world far too early".
