An email Meghan Markle sent to Kensington Palace asking aides to "set the record straight" on false Kate Middleton rumors has now been made public.

Last year, reports surfaced claiming the Duchess of Sussex has reduced her sister-in-law to tears over a disagreement about bridesmaid dresses.

Markle denied these claims during her interview with Oprah Winfrey this week, insisting the reverse happened.

And now, Harper's Bazaar's royal editor-at-large Omid Scobie has disclosed information supporting the Duchess' claims.

In an opinion piece written for the magazine, he claimed that in January 2020, Kensington Palace urged Prince Harry to cosign a statement refuting an "offensive" newspaper article claiming Prince William "constantly bullied" him and Meghan in the lead up to their decision to step down as senior working royals.

According to Scobie's source, Markle responded to the request by asking the Palace to deny rumors that she made Middleton cry.

She allegedly wrote" "Well, if we’re just throwing any statement out there now, then perhaps KP can finally set the record straight about me [not making Kate cry]."

When Palaces aides replied, Scobie claims that Markle's request was "ignored" and she instead was told that "the Duchess of Cambridge should never be dragged into idle gossip".

During her interview with Oprah, Markle addressed the rumors herself, claiming that Middleton has actually made her cry – not the other way around.

She told the host: "A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something - yes, the issue was correct, about the flower girl dresses — and it made me cry and it really hurt my feelings.

"And I thought in the context of everything else that was going on in those days leading to the wedding, it didn’t make sense to not be just doing whatever everyone else is doing, which was trying to be supportive knowing what was going on with my dad and whatnot."

Markle went on to reveal that Middleton had apologized and all had been forgiven.

However, more than a year later, she was surprised when details of the dispute were incorrectly leaked to the press and was distressed at not being able to set there record straight.

Markle also told Oprah that her mental health had suffered considerably due to the lack of support she was offered as a member of the Royal Family.

The Duchess even revealed that during her pregnancy with Archie, she had persistent thoughts of  not wanting "to be alive anymore." She said she'd turned to the Palace's HR department for help, but was told there was nothing they could do.

Following Markle and Harry's interview, the Queen has addressed the issues raised in a statement: "The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

"Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."
