Wayne Couzens - a 48-year-old serving Met Police officer - has been charged with the kidnap and murder of Sarah Everard.
As reported by BBC News, Everard, 33, went missing on March 3 during what should have been a 50-minute journey from a friend's house in Clapham, South London, to her home in Brixton.
She was last seen walking alone down a main road in Clapham at 21:30 GMT that evening.
A week after she vanished, London police confirmed that a police officer in the capital had been arrested on suspicion of kidnap and murder before human remains were discovered in a woodland in Kent, south of London.
Earlier today, per BBC News, Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave confirmed that the remains found in woodland near Ashford, Kent, were those of Everard.
Speaking outside New Scotland Yard, Ephgrave said:
"As you know, on Wednesday evening detectives investigating the disappearance of Sarah Everard discovered a body secreted in woodland in Kent.
"The body has now been recovered and formal identification procedure has now been undertaken."
Ephgrave added: "Specialist officers remain in constant contact with Sarah's family, and will continue to support them throughout the investigation and beyond.
"That investigation continues at a pace and we have hundreds of officers working round the clock to establish the full circumstances of Sarah's disappearance, and her murder."
"I would like at this stage to pay tribute to Sarah's family for their fortitude and forbearance through what can only have been the most intensely difficult few days, our thoughts remain with him as this matter progresses," he said.
"The investigation continues, of course, supported by hundreds of officers from across the Met, as well as colleagues in Kent Police."
Couzens, 48, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday charged with her murder.
The BBC reports that Couzens worked as part of the Metropolitan police's Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command.
