King Charles III and Queen Camilla marked the second anniversary of their coronation with the grand unveiling of their official state portraits at the National Gallery this week, per BBC News.

There was applause at the gallery on Tuesday as the King and Queen pulled down the coverings to reveal their full-length portraits before stepping back to admire the works.

The paintings will remain on display in the gallery’s Central Hall before moving to Buckingham Palace in June.

King Charles, 76, was painted by artist Peter Kuhfeld, while 77-year-old Camilla’s portrait was completed by Paul S. Benney.

Both works reflect the grandeur of the coronation, with the King portrayed standing in the Throne Room at St James’ Palace and the Queen Consort in the Garden Room of Clarence House.

The King’s portrait features him wearing the Robe of State — worn during the first part of the coronation service — alongside his naval uniform (Number 1 Ceremonial Day Dress), adorned with medals and decorations.

Following “established convention,” the Imperial State Crown is included in the scene, placed to the side on a table.

Meanwhile, Queen Camilla’s portrait shows her wearing her coronation dress and the Robe of Estate she wore when leaving Westminster Abbey, with her crown resting beside her.

Despite the portrait being fit for a King, fans couldn't help but notice one detail that they perceived to be NSFW.

"Is that a bra thrown on his shoulder?" asked one Facebook user.

"I thought he had a bra draped over his shoulder?" wrote another.

One commenter took things further, claiming: "It's the bra on his shoulder and the bondage ties on the bed post."

Let’s be clear: the object in question is not lingerie. It’s most likely part of the intricate detailing of the King’s robe.

But the internet will always do what the internet wants to do.

Artist Peter Kuhfeld, who spent more than 18 months on the King’s portrait and has worked with the royal family for decades, opened up about the creative process.

"I think he was pleased. It’s a very odd thing for a sitter to look at themselves," Kuhfeld said. "I just hope that I’ve got an aspect of the man and King, I just think that’s very important."

He added: "I've spent quite a long time with him over the years so I'm used to being with him. As a person he's very interesting, he is very understanding of what a painter needs to do the job."

Kuhfeld first painted Prince William and Harry as young boys at the King’s request and has enjoyed a long relationship with the royal household.

As for what the King actually thought of his latest portrait? Kuhfeld admitted: "You never ask a sitter what they think of their own picture because I'm not sure that they know."

Paul Benney, the artist behind Camilla’s portrait, had six official sittings with the Queen at Clarence House — and plenty of laughs in between.

"The sittings were extremely pleasurable on my part," he said. "I like to talk when I'm painting… and so we had a lot of chat and stories which we told each other. At times I would be holding my tummy from laughing so much. The Queen is very witty."

Camilla herself seemed charmed by the finished work. "I think it's really lovely," she told Benney at the unveiling.

He also got the stamp of approval from the Queen’s daughter, Laura Lopes, who attended the unveiling.

"The Queen has said nothing but wonderful things about it - but more importantly, Laura, her daughter, likes it. And you know when the kids like it that you're probably on the right track."
