Yesterday, Prince William and Prince Harry united to unveil a beautiful new statue in honor of their late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

The occasion marked the first time the brothers had been seen publicly together since their grandfather's funeral back in April, but there were smiles all around as the pair proudly unveiled the new statue to the world.

Designed by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley - who also designed the Queen's profile on the UK's coinage - the statue is located on the grounds of Kensington Palace and was revealed on what would have been the beloved princess' 60th birthday.

Per BBC News, the brothers said at the ceremony: "We remember her love, strength and character. Qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better."

They added that they hoped "the statue would "be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy".

However, after the statue was unveiled, many confused people took to Twitter all asking the same question: Who are the children standing next to Diana and why didn't the statue depict the mother with her two sons?

One Twitter user wrote: "Anyone else think it's kinda weird that Diana's statue has her holding other people's kids?"

A second added: "Why does the Diana statue have 3 random kids on it & not her own 2 sons?"

Another Twitter user typed: "Is it just me or is anyone else baffled at the Diana statue? Like who are the 3 kids meant to represent?"

A fourth tweeted: "I would’ve really liked if Diana’s statue included her own kids."

According to The Independent, a statement from Kensington Palace states that the statue was designed to reflect the late Princess' "warmth, elegance and energy", and the inclusion of the three unnamed children reflect the "universality and generational impact of the princess’s work".

The two princes have reportedly been working on the statue since 2017, and beneath it, a commemorative plaque reads: "These are the units to measure the worth of this woman as a woman regardless of birth. Not what was her station? But had she a heart? How did she play her God-given part?"
