The cause of death of Royal Family member Thomas Kingston has been revealed after he was found unresponsive in a house in Gloucestershire.

Kingston, a British financier who was married to Lady Gabriella Windsor since May 2019, suddenly died at age 45 in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire.

The director of Devonport Capital's 42-year-old wife is the daughter of Prince Michael of Kent, the late Queen Elizabeth II's first cousin - the latter of whom attended the couple's wedding at St George's Chapel before she passed away in September 2022.

Kingston was also a close friend of Pippa Middleton, Princess Catherine's sister, with the pair seen out and about together on several occasions. He even attended her wedding to James Matthews in May 2017, accompanied by Lady Gabriella.

Kingston died from traumatic head wound. Amid the investigation into his sudden passing, a gun was found near his body in an outbuilding at his parents' property in the Cotswolds, according to an inquest opening at Gloucestershire Coroners Court heard.

Buckingham Palace announced the tragic news on Tuesday evening (February 27) , and confirmed that Mr Kingston was found dead at an address in Gloucestershire on Sunday (February 25). Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 6pm.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the tragedy and no other parties involved.

A spokesman for Gloucester Ambulance Service said they had attended a private residence in the Cirencester area. He stated via The Mirror: "Gloucester Police have confirmed an ambulance from Gloucester Ambulance Service attended a private residence."

Opening the inquest at Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court, senior coroner Katy Skerrett said: “I have received evidence of the brief circumstances surrounding this tragic incident also in written format, which complies with Rule 23 of the Coroner’s Rules 2013. These brief circumstances are as follows. Mr Kingston was visiting his parents’ home in the Cotswolds. On February 25 2024 he ate lunch with his parents. His father went out to walk the dogs.

“On his return Mr Kingston was not in the house and after approximately 30 minutes his mother went to look for him. His father forced entry on a locked out building when no reply could be gained. He found Mr Kingston deceased with a catastrophic head injury. A gun was present at the scene. Emergency services were called. Police are satisfied the death is not suspicious.

“A post mortem has been undertaken by Dr Jones, a consultant histopathologist, and a provisional cause of death has been given as 1a traumatic wound to head. Having been satisfied with identification, initial cause of death and the brief circumstances surrounding Mr Kingston’s death, I can formally open this inquest. I now adjourn it to a date to be fixed. That concludes the opening of the inquest into the death of Thomas Henry Robin Kingston.”

A statement on behalf of Lady Gabriella Kingston, Mr Martin and Mrs Jill Kingston, Mrs Joanna Connolly and Mrs Emma Murray said: “It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother. Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him. His death has come as a great shock to the whole family and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing.”

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson added: “The King and the Queen have been informed of Thomas’s death and join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and all those who knew him in grieving a much-loved member of the family.
