Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says that Donald Trump will not be allowed to escape to the country following Joe Biden's inauguration.

Per The Independent, the SNP leader made the remarks during a press conference about the new lockdown restrictions the nation had put in place to prevent the spread of a new super-strain of Covid-19 across the United Kingdom.

Trump, a keen golfer who owns a luxury course of his own in Aberdeenshire, is rumored to be considering traveling to his resort to avoid attending Biden's official swearing-in ceremony as the 46th president of the United States, The Independent claims.

The White House has not made the incumbent President's plans on January 19 clear, but according to the Sunday Post, Prestwick airport in Glasgow has been told to expect the arrival of a US military Boeing 757 aircraft (previously used by Trump) on that date.

However, Sturgeon told assembled news reporters that she hoped that Trump would abide by lockdown restrictions and stay put, stating:

"I have no idea what Donald Trump's travel plans are – you'll be glad to know.

"I hope and expect that - as everybody expects, not everybody necessarily will hope – that the travel plan immediately that he has is to exit the White House. But beyond that I don't know. "

The First Minister added:

"We are not allowing people to come into Scotland without an essential purpose right now and that would apply to him, just as it applies to anybody else. Coming to play golf is not what I would consider to be an essential purpose."

On Twitter, a number of social media users have reacted positively to Sturgeon's pronouncement.

For instance, one person wrote: "Trump not really welcomed in Scotland. Poor dude can't just go because 'he wants to'... requires essential travel. Donny boy doesn't like to be told 'no.' [sic]"

Meanwhile, someone else commented: "I thought it was not possible to love Scotland more than I do. It is the most beautiful place I have ever visited. This pronouncement just puts it over the top! [sic]"

However, others were more sympathetic to Trump and thought that Sturgeon was being unreasonable.

For instance, one person wrote: "I am not a fan of Donald Trump at all, but as he owns the golf course surely she does not have the power to stop him?! [sic]"

Another person added: "Can’t stand the man, but traveling to his business could be deemed as essential travel (plenty of people are doing it). On a side note, he’ll find self-isolating quite easy as no one will want to go within a mile of the man! [sic]"
