An anonymous donor has offered to pay for the funeral costs for the 19 children and two adults killed during Tuesday's school shooting in Texas.

As the nation continues to mourn the tragic events that occurred in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24, a generous donor has offered a financial reprieve for the families affected.

On Tuesday morning, an 18-year-old gunman, named by authorities as Salvador Ramos, entered Robb Elementary School carrying a handgun, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, and high-capacity magazines.

He opened fire on a classroom - killing 19 children between the ages of nine and 11, and two teachers.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday (May 27), Texas Governor Greg Abbott told reporters: "An anonymous donor who attended the meeting and provided $175,000 to ensure that every cost of every family concerning anything about funeral services is going to be taken care of."

"We appreciate that anonymous donor for his generosity," Abbott added. "And we will ensure that those resources get into the right hands."

Per CBS News, Abbott also stated that there will be a number of mental health services available to the families of the victims, as he told reporters:

"No family who is suffering from incalculable heartbreak at this time will have to worry about a single cost with regard to anything concerning this travesty."

NBC News also reports how Abbott said he was "livid" about being "misled" on the details of the immediate police response to the shooting.

In the days after the massacre, Abbott and other officials stated that a school resource officer confronted the teenage gunman as he entered the school campus. This claim has since been retracted by law enforcement.

It is also unknown just how long officers waited before entering the school to confront Ramos.

Abbott said on Friday that investigators need to "get to the very seconds of exactly what happened with 100 percent accuracy and explain it to the public and most importantly to the victims who have been devastated."

"There will be ongoing investigations that detail exactly who knew what when, who was in charge and what strategy, why that particular strategy was employed, why were other strategies not employed," Abbott said.

"Bottom line would be, why did they not choose the strategy that would have been best to get in there to eliminate the killer and to rescue the children," the governor said.

Our thoughts continue to go out to the victims of this tragedy...
