A tenth teenager is expected to surrender to the police following an alleged plot to murder a 16-year-old.
The disturbing events occurred on June 24, 2025, when Trey Dean Wright was allegedly lured to a remote area by his 17-year-old girlfriend, Gianna Kistenmacher, where he encountered a group of teens, including 19-year-old Devan Scott Raper, per the New York Post.
The situation quickly escalated, resulting in Wright being shot multiple times. As he lay dying, at least one of the teens reportedly filmed the horrific scene.
Authorities believe the incident was premeditated, with the group of teens aware that Raper was armed and expecting a confrontation, per a press release.
The altercation reportedly began over a dispute between Wright and Raper concerning a girl. Wright was shot by Raper, who had previously threatened him and flashed a gun.
The victim was found in the road around 11:30PM, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response from law enforcement, Wright tragically died from his injuries the next day.
Raper was arrested the day after the murder and charged with homicide and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
He remains in jail without bond. In the weeks following, eight other teens were charged in connection with the murder.
These individuals are accused of being complicit in setting up the killing, either by alerting Raper to Wright’s location or being present during the confrontation.
The victim’s girlfriend, Kistenmacher, is facing charges of accessory before the fact. Investigators believe she knew Raper was armed and helped instigate the deadly argument between him and Wright.
Kistenmacher was released on bond but is under home confinement as the case unfolds. Hunter Kendall, 18, Corrine Belviso, 18, and Sydney Kearns, 17, were also arrested and charged, though the exact role they played in the murder has yet to be disclosed, per ABC15.
Four additional minors have been implicated in the case, but their identities have not been released due to their age.
A 10th individual is set to turn themselves in, per News13.
According to Florence County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Michael Nunn, the decision to charge so many teens was not taken lightly.
"The decision was made, again with investigators, in consultation with the solicitor’s office to charge each of them," Nunn said.
He emphasized that under South Carolina law, "The hand of one being the hand of all" applies, meaning each individual involved is considered equally responsible for the crime.
Sheriff TJ Joyle added that the conflict was rooted in a personal dispute between Wright and Raper, saying: “This was an altercation between two people... The sad thing is, you got a 16-year-old that lost his life. You’ve got a 19-year-old who is going to be in jail the rest of his life. Over what?”
