New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been in the news this week, but it isn't about anything politics-related.
The potential Presidential candidate recently caught the attention of the public after announcing her decision to freeze her eggs.
Ocasio-Cortez, 36, also addressed speculation that the choice could be connected to a possible 2028 presidential campaign.
The politician has been sharing progress of the process with followers on Instagram, sharing all about the hormone injections she needs to take before the eggs are collected.
But on Wednesday, reports emerged claiming that she had quietly split up from her fiancé Riley Roberts, as per The Independent.
In fact, it's claimed that the couple ended their engagement about 18 months ago, with the Congresswoman no longer wearing her engagement ring.
After opening up about her egg freezing process, she urged fans not to be "weird" about anything, as she explained how she saved money for it over time.
Ocasio-Cortez explained that it was the right moment for the procedure, given that Congress is on its August recess, adding: “This is a choice that I am making to feel more in control of my life,” she said, adding that she felt “empowered” by the decision.
She can be seen injecting hormones into her abdomen in videos posted to her Instagram page, with one clip in particular going viral.
In the three-second clip, the Democrat gets closer to the camera and jokingly warns viewers, while winding up a punch: "Don't be weird," before bursting into laughter.
If you haven't guessed already, social media already made it weird, especially since news of her single status emerged this month.
Social media users took to X, reposting the viral clip of the Congresswoman, who has previously jokingly asked fans not to be weird.
One candidly wrote: "Putting politics aside, I think we can all agree that AOC is hot."
A more respectful user penned: "Resisting urge to not be weird about this (sorry AOC)," with a GIF of The Office character Michael Scott cringing.
"Something tells me she wants you to be a little weird," a third claimed.
Others jumped to Ocasio-Cortez's defence, with one pointing out: "She explicitly said don’t be weird. And here y’all are. Being weird."
Another video of the politician also did the rounds, where she is filming a vlog with her front camera as she prepares to go for a workout, dressed in gym clothes.
One account described her as the "Sydney Sweeney of politics," and it doesn't take a genius to figure out why they suggested that - whether it's fully appropriate or not is another conversation.
Fittingly, Ocasio-Cortez previously claimed that there is a different standard applied to women in US politics compared with men, explaining: “This is just not something that men deal with,
“Men run for office, or frankly, they interview for jobs, and people don’t think in the back of their mind, ‘Okay, this guy is running for office. How old is he? Oh, well, is he going to want to start a family?’” she said.
She said in an Instagram video that she was sworn into the House of Representatives at 29, explaining: “There’s this flip side where you have to then grow up in the public eye in a time that most people usually get to grow more privately.”
Ocasio-Cortez also addressed rumors linking her freezing her eggs to a potential presidential campaign, saying: “The media will run up and ask a question like, ‘Are you going to run for this? Or are you going to run for that?’
"And it is almost through this very two-dimensional, craven understanding or ambitious understanding of power."
