Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been projected to win a second term as a New York representative in congress over her first-time Republican challenger.

The Associated Press has announced: "Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wins reelection to U.S. House in New York’s 14th Congressional District."

In addition, CNN has stated: "Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will win reelection to New York's 14th Congressional District against two challengers, Republican John C. Cummings and Michelle Caruso-Cabrera of the Serve America Movement party"

Per the New York Times, 60-year-old Catholic high school teacher and former NYPD officer John Cummings trailed AOC by nearly 37 percentage points, despite raising over $10 million from supporters.

Following her projected victory, Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to share a message of thanks with her supporters. She wrote:

"Serving NY-14 and fighting for working class families in Congress has been the greatest honor, privilege, & responsibility of my life.

"Thank you to the Bronx & Queens for re-electing me to the House despite the millions spent against us, & trusting me to represent you once more."

Per the Times, Cummings had successfully made the race the second-most expensive House contest in the country after successfully winning donations from across the US.

Cummings was able to use the funding to reportedly hire leading Republican consultants, buy millions of dollars in advertisements, and distribute more than 700,000 pieces of mail to the district, the Times states.

However, it wasn't enough to overthrow AOC, and The Associated Press called the race at 10:09PM this evening.

Now, many are speculating on the political future of Ocasio-Cortez, with the 31-year-old telling Vanity Fair last week:

"I don’t know if I’m really going to be staying in the House forever, or if I do stay in the House, what that would look like

"I don’t see myself really staying where I’m at for the rest of my life."
