Police discovered the American Idol music supervisor and her husband dead inside their Encino, California, home on July 14 during a welfare check. The couple, both 70, had been fatally shot four days earlier.

According to death certificates obtained by PEOPLE, Kaye and Deluca died of multiple gunshot wounds on July 10. The manner of death for both was ruled homicide.

Deluca passed away within seconds of being shot, while Kaye survived for several minutes before succumbing to her injuries. Their official date of death is listed as July 14 at 4:14PM, the time officers pronounced them dead.

Autopsies were performed on both victims, though Kaye’s July 23 death certificate initially indicated no autopsy had been undertaken. That was later corrected on August 4.

Investigators said the pair had just returned from a grocery run when they encountered 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian inside their $4.5 million property.

The intruder allegedly used the couple’s own gun to shoot them execution-style. Court records describe Boodarian as a heavy drug user with a history of mental illness and prior arrests, per the New York Post.

Police say the couple’s front door was unlocked and their alarm system had been disabled. A neighbor reported seeing someone jump the fence around 4PM on July 10 and called authorities.

Officers checked the property, even deploying a helicopter overhead, but found nothing suspicious at the time.

Despite at least two visits to the home that day, it wasn’t until July 14 that officers entered the property after a friend requested a welfare check, finding the couple’s bodies inside.

Boodarian was arrested the following day and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree residential burglary. Fingerprints from his prior arrests reportedly helped link him to the crime.

At his August 20 arraignment in Van Nuys, Boodarian appeared in a suicide gown and refused to answer the judge’s questions.

Judge Martin L. Herscovitz halted proceedings, ruling it was not “fair” to continue without the defendant’s participation, and referred the case to mental health court.

His public defender, Nancy Kolocotronis, told the court that her client is allegedly suicidal. He remains held without bail and is scheduled to appear in mental health court on September 3 in Hollywood.

Records show the suspect has at least three prior arrests from late 2023 and early 2024, including charges for battery and making threats with a weapon.

Our thoughts are with Kaye and her husband's loved ones at this time.
