Biden scores first victory of election day - winning all 5 votes in tiny New Hampshire town
Joe Biden has managed to score the first victory of election day after winning all five votes in a small New Hampshire town.
The Democrat presidential candidate scooped 100% of the five registered voters in the little town of Dixville Notch in New Hampshire, which announced its results after counting its ballots just after the stroke of midnight.

CNN reports that the midnight ballot-counting has been a Dixville Notch civic tradition for the last 60 years.
It sees the eligible voters gather in the storied ballot room in the Balsams Resort to cast their secret ballots once the polls open at midnight.

Since the Dixville Notch voting results can be tallied so quickly, they are usually announced before anywhere else, which has made the little hamlet a favorite spot for reporters looking for an insight into the results of the election.
Per the New York Post, the electoral tradition normally attracts a large media presence with food and drink provided for.
However, the event has been scaled back this year due to social distancing concerns as a result of the pandemic.

Per The Independent, one of the five Dixville Notch voters who backed Biden was a lifelong Republican voter called Les Otten.
Otten, a businessman and town selectman, told reporters that he didn't agree with some of Biden's policies, but that he wanted to see an end to the political division he believes has spread during the Trump administration.
Otten stated that it was time for Americans to elect a leader who is "truthful and who will put the country’s welfare above all us and who will show respect for all people regardless of their gender, race, religion, or political beliefs."

Otten added:
"It’s time to return to values our conservative party has held historically dear: limited government, balanced budget, support for working families and respect for personal rights and historically being at the forefront of racial justice dating back to when we were the party of Lincoln."

Per a report by the New York Post, Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton managed to win the Dixville Notch vote back in 2016, when the town had eight registered voters instead of a mere five.
