Burger King's top executive has revealed which item he always orders from the fast-food chain, and admitted there's one product he believes still requires serious improvement.
Tom Curtis, who has served as Burger King president for the US and Canada since October 2021, shared his personal menu picks while discussing the brand's latest offerings.
The chain has recently launched a revamped version of its signature Whopper after inviting customers to design their own creations online.
The winning entry became the Loaded Jalapeño Whopper, featuring a flame-grilled beef patty topped with crispy pickled jalapeños, creamy jalapeño sauce, American cheese, lettuce and tomato.
Despite the new addition, Curtis says nothing beats the original.
"The flame-grilled taste can't be beat, and it's the perfect burger just how it comes," he said, explaining that the classic Whopper with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, ketchup and mayonnaise remains his favourite.
Unsurprisingly, it's also Burger King's best-selling menu item.
However, the company president was far less enthusiastic when discussing another product.
"We can do better, and we will," Curtis admitted about Burger King's chicken nuggets.
"I want a meatier, crispier nugget and sauces that make my taste buds dance. The team is on it."
His comments echo complaints that customers have been making for years across social media.
One unhappy diner wrote: "Burger King should be ashamed of themselves for these nuggets. Nuggets just looking perfect until you bite into one, and it's artificial mush meat. You can at least take the word chicken out of the title cause ain't no chicken in there."
Another customer added: "These chicken nuggets are an embarrassment to fast food everywhere — zero flavor, no crunch, ice cold."
Curtis said he has heard the criticism and agrees improvements are needed, suggesting changes could be on the way.
Looking back at discontinued menu items, Curtis also revealed he'd like to see Burger King's Grilled Chicken Sandwich return.
"It's hard to find a really good one right now!" he said.
The sandwich disappeared from Burger King restaurants in 2019, although the chain has introduced several different grilled chicken options over the years.
One of the earliest was the BK Broiler, launched in 1990 and promoted as "flame-broiled, never fried." It was followed by the TenderGrill in 2005, featuring an all-white meat chicken breast served with lettuce and mayonnaise on a large bun.
The company's final attempt came in 2019 with the Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken Sandwich, which paired a grilled chicken breast with lettuce, tomato and honey mustard on a potato bun. Like its predecessors, it was eventually removed from the menu.
