Child, 3, who was slashed by woman in Walmart car park's 3 heartbreaking requests in hospital
A chilling incident unfolded outside a Walmart in Omaha, Nebraska, on Tuesday, April 14, when a knife-wielding woman attacked a three-year-old child. The terrifying attack occurred in the supermarket's car park, leaving the young boy, Cyler Hillman, with significant injuries. His father, Casey Hillman, has spoken out about his son’s bravery following the attack and shared the three requests he made in the hospital.
Casey’s son, Cyler, was targeted by 31-year-old Noemi Guzman, who had a history of mental illness. Guzman approached Cyler and his caregiver while armed with a large knife, making threats before she attacked.
Police reported that surveillance footage showed Guzman stealing the knife from the store and then confronting the child and his babysitter. She forced the pair to move through the store and out to the parking lot. Once there, Guzman attempted to harm Cyler, cutting him across the face and on his hand.
Three heartbreaking requests from Cyler in the hospital
Cyler’s father, Casey, has shared the heart-wrenching details of his son’s emotional response to the traumatic incident. After the attack, Cyler was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Despite the severity of the situation, Casey recalled to KMTV that his son’s main concerns were simple yet deeply touching: "His three main concerns were his dad, a band-aid, and to go home," Casey said.
The emotional strain of the event was felt most acutely by Casey, who rushed to the scene when he received the news. He shared with the outlet how he “broke down” when he saw his son, thanking God for his survival.
“If [the knife] would have been any lower or he wouldn’t have been looking out, we’d be having a whole different conversation,” he said. However, as his son prepared for surgery, the first time Cyler cried was when he had to leave his father’s side. This moment, marked by the separation, revealed the emotional toll the attack had on the young boy.
Cyler’s emotional struggle after the attack
While Cyler’s physical wounds are healing, the emotional scars may take longer to mend. Casey shared that his son, who had previously been fearless, became terrified of leaving the house in the aftermath.
The young boy expressed that going outside was "scary," a sentiment that resonated deeply with his father, who promised to keep him safe.
Despite the trauma, Casey praised his son’s bravery. “He definitely cowboyed up,” Casey said, acknowledging that Cyler had shown remarkable courage considering the severity of his injuries. The community has rallied behind Cyler, with a GoFundMe page raising over $32,000 to help with his medical expenses and ongoing care.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing as the family seeks answers and justice.
