Chilling photo evidence that was shown to court as boy broke down revealing his mom drowned his sister
A seven-year-old boy, who broke down while revealing that his mother had drowned his younger sister, was shown haunting photo evidence in court.
On August 8, 2007, in the small rural town of Esto, Florida, near the Alabama border, tragedy struck the Hutto family.
AJ Hutto's seven-year-old sister, Adrianna, was found dead in the family’s backyard pool after their mother, Amanda Lewis, returned home from working a night shift.
Lewis claimed that Adrianna had slipped into the pool while trying to clean bugs from the surface and was found face-down and unresponsive, per Court TV.
Initially, investigators treated the death as a tragic accident, but everything changed when AJ, then just seven years old, told investigators that he had witnessed his mother deliberately push Adrianna into the pool and hold her under.
In a recorded statement, he said: "She done some stuff that she ain't suppose so my mama got mad, so she throwed her in the pool," per The Mirror.
This powerful testimony became the cornerstone of the prosecution's case.
Emotional Testimony That Helped Convict
In February 2008, dressed in a collared shirt and vest, AJ took the witness stand and delivered his heart-wrenching testimony.
The attorney asked the young boy if he owned a red wagon, to which AJ replied yes. The attorney then inquired about the wagon's location on that tragic day, and AJ revealed that his mother had "pulled it all the way to the pool."
The lawyer then presented a picture of an outdoor swimming pool and asked the seven-year-old about the red wagon and a bicycle clearly visible in the image.
AJ explained that the bicycle belonged to his mother and that the pool was owned by her then-boyfriend, Alan Carnley.
However, Amanda denied pulling the red wagon to the pool when she was interviewed by Piers Morgan in 2016 as part of the ITV drama Killer Women.
She claimed: "We had went outside. The kids were playing. Had to step back inside. Somewhere along the point she had pulled the wagon by the pool. Somewhere along the line she fell in.
"Adrianna was playing in the pool. I looked out the back door and that's when I can barely see her floating in the pool," she added.
Standing by His Testimony
AJ's testimony played a decisive role in the conviction of his mom, who was found guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. She was sentenced to life in prison.
Following the trial, he was adopted by another family, given a new identity, and protected under court orders to ensure his safety.
Since then, AJ has kept quiet about the traumatic events of his childhood. However, 17 years later, he broke his silence in his first public interview with the Daily Mail, reaffirming his original testimony.
“I don’t believe I was, what they’ve called, coached or anything like that,” he said. “I just told them exactly what I saw, word for word.”
The now-24-year-old opened up about testifying against his mother at such a young age, admitting that when he entered the courtroom, he didn’t even recognize her.
"It was heartbreaking,” he said. “She’s my mother. But there was also some relief that what we were going through at the time was finally coming to an end.”
Since his mother’s conviction, AJ has had no contact with Amanda. "It’s court-appointed that we cannot see each other," he explained. "And I’ve wanted to keep it that way, just so nothing’s getting brought back up… all the feelings, emotions, and traumas coming back into light."
Despite her conviction, Amanda has continued to maintain her innocence. She has filed several appeals, all of which have been unsuccessful.
