Chris Watts has made a major decision regarding his sentence after killing his wife and children.
In August 2018, Watts, then 33, murdered his pregnant wife, Shanann, and their two young daughters, Bella and Celeste, before hiding their bodies in oil tanks at his workplace.
Now 40, he is serving a life sentence at the Dodge Correctional Institution in Wisconsin after pleading guilty.
Despite his conviction, his behavior behind bars continues to raise concerns, with disturbing revelations from a former cellmate.
Watts' Obsession with Women
In a recent interview with The Daily Mail, Dylan Tallman, who was Watts' former cellmate for seven months in 2020, opened up about the convicted killer's disturbing behavior in prison.
According to Tallman, Watts has become obsessed with any woman who shows him attention, often to an alarming degree.
"He will talk to a girl, and she becomes his everything really fast," he said. "He becomes obsessed with a woman, and she becomes all he can think of - and he'll do whatever they ask him to do."
The cellmate noted that Watts would spend hours talking to women, writing them letters, and making incessant phone calls.
Many of these women, Tallman noted, have sent money to Watts through the prison commissary and maintained ongoing pen pal relationships with him.
Blaming His Crime on a Woman
In letters reviewed by the publication, Watts attempted to explain his horrific actions by placing the blame on a string of "strange women," including his wife and his former lover, Nichol Kessinger.
"I was misled, I was tempted by a harlot," he wrote about Kessinger. "I was weak, and I allowed myself to be fooled by an evil woman. She led me from the path of righteousness."
Watts portrays himself as a victim of his ex's supposed manipulation, claiming that he is "a man after your heart" and "seeks your face," but was misled by her.
He also writes disparagingly about Shanann, calling her "domineering" and "self-absorbed," even suggesting that she contributed to her own death.
And in other letters, he refers to women as "harlots," "Jezebels," and "whores," continuing to deflect blame.
Watts Drops Appeals, Accepts His Fate
Despite blaming others for his crimes, Tallman revealed that Watts has now chosen to drop any appeals to his life sentence.
"He says he's where he belongs," he shared, referring to letters Watts has sent stating his resolve. “And that maybe people will come to Christ after hearing about him.”
Watts, sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, has accepted his fate, though his disturbing tendencies remain present, even behind bars.
