Comedian Samantha Bee has ripped into Ivanka Trump in an expletive-packed tirade that named her a "feckless c**t".
In an episode of her Emmy Award-winning show, Full Frontal, 48-year-old Bee attacked President Trump's daughter while discussing the Trump administration's policy of separating undocumented children from their parents.
During her rant, she had a short but powerful message for Ivanka, who has served in her father's presidential administration in an official, unpaid position since March 2017: "Do something".
"After decades of ignoring the issue, Americans are finally paying attention. Well, most of us. Ivanka Trump, who works at the White House, chose to post the second most oblivious tweet we’ve seen this week," she said. "You know, Ivanka, that's a beautiful photo of you and your child but let me just say, one mother to another: Do something about your dad's immigration practices you feckless c**t. He listens to you. Put on something tight and low cut and tell your father to f****** stop it. Tell him it was an Obama thing and see how it goes, OK."
Her comments about the businesswoman come after Ivanka tweeted a photo of her embracing her son, one that critics denounced as "tone deaf", due to the increasing numbers of immigrant families being separated at the US-Mexico border.
When word got out, Bee's comments sparked outrage, with many online naming her offensive language as inappropriate.
"@iamsambee calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c***” Why?" wrote @Chet_Cannon. "Because Ivanka hugged her son This creature is beneath contempt." In addition, @chicksonright posted saying: "This makes Roseanne's joke look TAME. Holy crap. How is THIS acceptable?"
However, others were fully in support of her rant, with Twitter user @Brasilmagic writing: "I think Samantha Bee should not have used the "C" word (I never use it -maybe the B word is more acceptable?), but if it brings attention to the fact Ivanka Trump is engaged in high level corruption, so be it."
Her words were denounced by White House press secretary Sarah Sanders as "vile and vicious" and the Canadian-American star has since apologised to Ivanka, writing on Twitter that she "crossed a line". In addition, her network, TBS has also expressed regret, stating "it was our mistake too, and we regret it."
Car company Autotrader has also stated that it would pull its advertising sponsorship from "Full Frontal," calling Bee’s language "offensive and unacceptable". However, the Television Academy has claimed the incident will not make any change to Thursday night's event, where they will honour her show as one of the most "meaningful and relevant" on the air.
Bee's rant began when she showed a news segment about migrant children being taken into government custody at the border, as well as the Department of Justice’s intentions to prosecute 100 per cent of people crossing the border illegally, including asylum seekers and undocumented workers.
Discussing the video, Bee stated: "Tearing children away from their parents is so evil, it’s the inciting incident in almost every movie we’ve ever cared about. According to haunted marionette Jeff Sessions, these babies are actually baby criminals."
The comedian also had more to say after the footage showed Attorney General Jeff Sessions claim: "If you don’t want your child to be separated, then don’t bring them across the border illegally. It’s not our fault."
In response, the late-night talk show host stated: "Don’t worry. The Trump administration has a really good explanation for why they’re treating migrants like animals. It was all Obama’s idea!"
She continued, admitting that the issue was partly down to the Obama administration: "They’re half right. We have had awful immigration practices since, well, always, even under presidents we like seeing shirtless. A recent report from the ACLU describes hundreds of abuses of migrant children while in custody of the US government during the Obama administration. And just last week, this image circulated of children being kept in an Arizona holding facility in 2014. No, Donald Trump didn’t invent this issue – he’s just making it so much worse. Now everyone who even approaches the border is treated like a criminal."
