A heartwarming video has emerged on social media showing the moment a high school sports hall fell totally silent in order to allow a blind basketball player to make the net.
Yes, although some people may believe that living with a disability or impairment can make certain tasks impossible - this story goes to show that with the right support, these incredible individuals can achieve whatever they set their mind to.
The now-viral video in question shows the moment high school basketball player Jules Hoogland stepped onto the court and prepared to sink a ball in the basket.
Hoogland - a junior at Zeeland East High School in Michigan - is completely blind after losing her eyesight at the age of three. Nevertheless, she had the full support of the 2,500-strong crowd as she prepared to make the shot.
In the video, Cheryl Beute can be seen using a pole to tap on the backboard, allowing the teenager to hear where the hoop is.
Surrounded by a packed gym of eager supporters, Hoogland made the shot, sank the ball, and the crowd went WILD!
Check out the incredible moment below:Yes, the 17=year-old - who plays for Zeeland Public Schools Unified Basketball Team - made the shot look like a walk in the park!
Zeeland Public Schools (ZPS) later shared the video to its Facebook and Twitter pages, where it has amassed more than 2.6 million views across the two platforms.
Responding to the Facebook video and outpouring of support, Jules' mom, Karen, wrote: "She’s completely blind! That’s my daughter! I’m so proud of her and all her accomplishments! Zeeland Public Schools has stood beside my daughter and encouraged her all her years in school. Thank you ZPS!!"
Per Fox News 17, ZPS runs a Unified Sports Program that's dedicated to helping students with disabilities and impairments team up with their peers.
These student athletes then compete at other schools throughout the area.
This particular video was shot during the Zeeland East vs. West game earlier this week.
Per MLive, Jules spoke about the now-iconic shot following the game, saying: "I was really nervous because all these people are staring at me. Luckily, I couldn’t see them staring at me."
The student first started playing basketball in middle school, and told MLive that learning the sport has been a "process", but "fun".
"It is frustrating at times, but I just keep going," Jules said.
What an inspirational young woman and incredible team! Well done, ZPS!
