A Minnesota father turned himself in to police after killing a convicted sex offender he says had once stalked his young daughter.
According to court documents obtained by Fox News, 27-year-old Levi Axtell even "finished" the 77-year-old man off with a moose antler.
Axtell went to the police station on March 8 reportedly covered in blood, before falling to his knees and informing the officers he had beaten Scully to death using a shovel, per the Associated Press.
He reportedly told police that he made sure to "finish" the job with the moose antler.
The cause of Scully's death was "blunt force head injuries," according to an affidavit. He also had "wounds on his arms that are consistent with defensive wounds."
Placing his hands on his head, Axtell told the cops to handcuff him, with the threat that he would harm more people if he wasn’t restrained, states the report.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office said they later discovered Scully dead inside his home in Grand Marias, about two hours north of Duluth. The charging document stated that the man was "obviously dead from the serious nature of his head wounds," per NBC Los Angeles.
A witness called emergency services after seeing a man "smash" a car in Scully’s driveway and run into the elderly man’s property, authorities said. The witness then heard screaming, police added.
The witness said that a short while later - while they were still on the phone with officials - the man got back into his car and drove off.
Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen confirmed that Scully had been found guilty of the sexual assault of a six-year-old girl in Kanabec County, Minnesota, in 1979, per NBC Los Angeles. He went free just a few years later in 1982.
Axtell and Sully had previous encounters, with the young father accusing the man of "attempting to groom" his then-toddler daughter in 2018.
A complaint read, "(Axtell) said he had observed (Scully) parked in the vehicle at locations where children were present and believed he would reoffend," via the outlet.
Axtell tried to obtain an order of protection against the man, according to WTIP.
The request was granted initially and then thrown out some time later.
Some years after, Axtell took to Facebook to post: "Only cure for pedophiles? A bullet", the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.
Axtell was arraigned on Friday on a second-degree murder charge and is being held on a $1 million bond.
As per the recent allegations against Scully, Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen told the Associated Press they "didn’t reveal anything" and that most of them were "regarding harassment."
Axtell's next court appearance is set for April 10.
