Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders take legal action against My Chemical Romance over costumes they wore on stage
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are filing for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against rock band My Chemical Romance.
It has been reported that the parent company of the iconic dancers is looking to take legal action against the band after they performed alongside dancers in outfits matching their iconic uniforms last week.
Pro Silver Star owns the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders' brand, and they are looking to stop the alternative rock band from using those costumes onstage in the future.
On Wednesday (October 21), the 'Welcome to the Black Parade' band performed at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, with dancers looking almost identical to the Cheerleaders' striking white and blue uniforms.
The court filing details that these dancers were holding rifles and engaged in a choreographed fire fight, 'only to be depicted being shot'.
Details revealed in court filing
Pro Silver Star added in the filing: “Audience members and online commentators understandably believed that the performers were the real Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and said so in social media posts that continue to circulate.”
They added that it was 'not litigious', highlighting that it 'takes no issue with MCR’s music, its artistic ambitions, or any message Defendants seek to convey.'
The filing further details that 'Silver Star asks only that those performers not wear the DCC Uniform while doing it,' adding: “The universe of alternative costume designs is effectively unlimited.”
My Chemical Romance are currently on a world tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of its third studio album, which is also considered their most successful, The Black Parade.
They performed at the Hollywood Bowl again on Saturday, with two more shows scheduled over the Halloween weekend.
Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to unionize
Prior to the court filing made last week, it was announced that the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders had formed a union.
It is set to be the first pro-sports cheerleading squad union, apart from a failed attempt from by the Buffalo Bills’ 'Buffalo Jills' in the mid-1990s.
The Dallas Cowboys had recognized their bargaining unit, which was followed by a joint press release on Friday.
They stated that an agreement was reached after 'meaningful discussion' between the two sides, as per the statement.
Contract negotiations are now underway for the cheerleaders, with the squad currently made up of 36 members.
It isn't known how many will be officially represented by the union, as the press release addresses the cheerleaders as a group.
The Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders added in their statement: “The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are an esteemed part of the Cowboys organization, deeply respected for their talent and dedication they exhibit.”
