Devastating new details revealed after 7-month-old baby girl is shot dead in her stroller in New York
Devastating new details have emerged after a seven-month-old baby girl was shot dead while sitting in her stroller on a Brooklyn street.
Little Kaori Patterson-Moore was fatally struck in the head when gunmen opened fire from a moped in broad daylight on Wednesday afternoon.
The shooting unfolded near the corner of Humboldt and Moore Streets in East Williamsburg at around 1:20PM, as Kaori’s parents pushed a double stroller carrying her and her two-year-old brother.
Gunmen Targeted Father
According to the New York Post, police sources say her father, Jamari Patterson, 22, was the intended target in what appears to be a dispute linked to a social media feud between rival housing projects.
It's been reported that the attackers fired toward the family but missed Patterson, instead hitting the baby in the head.
The same bullet then grazed her older brother’s back before the suspects fled the scene on a moped.
"We thought it was fireworks, but my son jumped out of the stroller, and I picked him up and carried him," Kaori’s devastated mom, Lianna Charles-Moore, 20, said.
"I was hugging him, and then when I looked to my left, my daughter was just there, lying there. She was shot in the head. She was just bleeding. It was just too much," she added.
Disturbing CCTV footage captured the moment Charles-Moore realized what had happened, as she pulled back the stroller cover inside a nearby deli and began screaming in horror.
Kaori was rushed to Woodhull Hospital but was pronounced dead at 1:46PM.
Suspect Identified As Manhunt Continues
The suspects crashed their moped just two blocks away from the scene. One of them, identified as 21-year-old Amuri Greene, was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital, where he was later identified as a person of interest.
Greene, who lives in the Marcy Houses, has not yet been charged but is expected to face murder charges, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed.
Authorities believe the violence may be tied to a feud between the Marcy Houses and the Bushwick Houses, where Patterson lives.
Meanwhile, the second suspect, believed to be the driver of the moped, remains on the run.
A "massive NYPD manhunt" involving officers and bloodhounds is underway.
The killing has sparked outrage across New York City, with officials warning against becoming desensitized to gun violence.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said: "There are no words that can mend the heartbreak this family is feeling now, no declaration strong enough to lift the grief they are now forced to carry, no embrace wide enough to heal the hole that has been left their lives.”
He urged residents not to "grow numb to this pain" and normalize such tragedies.
Kaori’s heartbroken mother has since called for justice for her daughter, who had only just begun to say "mamma" before her life was cut short.
