Donald Trump clarifies $5,000 checks for adult Americans
Donald Trump has released a new video confirming exactly who will receive the $5,000 checks if the Republicans win the midterm elections.
Of course, whether this actually happens or not is up to the American public - and even then it still might not - but it’s great to have a bit of clarity.
It wasn’t clear who Donald Trump was planning to give the money to
There had been some confusion around who Donald Trump planned to hand over the cash to, and that confusion will remain, but what has changed is that Donald Trump has now clarified his words in a typically bombastic new video.
Sharing the video online, Trump finally confirmed that it’s ‘all adult Americans’ who will receive the checks, should the Republicans get control after the voting on November 3.
Some people out there might be wondering where the first $2,000 that Donald Trump promised is, or even how the USA can afford to pay for this, but, others will be glad just to learn that they qualify at all, because there had been some real confusion over that, largely because of what Trump had said.
In fact, over the course of a single day he said two different things.
On one occasion he said ‘all Americans’ and on another he said ‘all adult Americans’.
Now, you don’t have to be a maths expert to know that there’s some disparity between those figures.
As it happens, there is about 73 million people difference.
So, what did Donald Trump actually say?
In the short video - part of a series he released in one big drop earlier today (October 12) Trump said: “I am going to give all adult citizens in the United States of American $5,000.
“Democrat policies won’t allow this to happen, in fact, the opposite, they are going to raise your taxes,
“If the Democrats win, you will have an economic depression, if the Republicans win you will each have $5,000 in your pocket, and economic success for our country, like we have never ever seen before.”
Whether you believe that to be true or not, there’s no doubt that he’s finally put some meat on the fairly flimsy bones of the promise that he made some weeks ago.
This might be a direct response to the recent poll that showed a seriously low percentage of people who believed that Trump would actually follow through.
Across all Americans - or is that all adult Americans? - just 21 percent believed that they’d get the money, regardless of Trump winning the midterms or now.
For now, this latest video is all we’ve got to go off, so we’ll have to see how the Democrats react, what more comes out of Trump’s White House about the situation, and whether more information, contradictory or not, emerges.
