Donald Trump sparks backlash after saying remark ‘would end my political career’ in awkward Fox News exchange
Donald Trump is facing backlash after a Fox News interview turned awkward when he praised host Dana Perino’s appearance instead of directly addressing a question about suffering in Iran.
During the live call to Fox’s The Five, Perino asked if Iranians were starving due to the ongoing war.
“Do you have any insight as to how they are doing? Do they have drinking water? Do they have food? It’s upsetting,” she asked.
Trump's awkward diversion
Instead of answering right away, Trump reminisced about their past meeting, interjecting: “Remember when we had lunch years ago in the base of Trump Tower when it was a brand-new building? You haven’t changed. I’m not allowed to say this. It’s the end of my political career, but you may be even better looking, okay?”
Perino laughed off the remark, crediting Fox’s styling team and replying: “Fox hair and makeup has a lot to do with it.” Trump continued: “I will not say that because that will end my political career. You are not allowed to say a woman is beautiful anymore.”
In the same interview, Trump claimed that U.S. intelligence had informed him “the new Ayatollah of Iran may be gay,” adding: “They did say that. I think a lot of people are saying that - which puts him off to a bad start in that particular country.”
Later that evening, he announced on social media that he had decided to postpone potential strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure until April 6, 2026, saying: “As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days… Talks are ongoing.”
Social media uproar at Trump comments
The exchange quickly went viral online, where critics accused Trump of being dismissive. One widely shared post read: “Trump is sick! He’s asked about Iranian citizens suffering, and all he can do is tell the Fox News host that she’s beautiful. He is a psychopath.”
Another incensed user wrote: "He’s a disgusting perverted p***hile and people on Fox just lap it up like this is normal behavior for a President."
The former president’s past behavior with female journalists resurfaced in the debate, with users recalling that he previously called New York Times reporter Katie Rogers “ugly” and told Bloomberg’s Catherine Lucey, “Quiet, piggy,” when questioned about the Epstein case.
Iran rejected Trump’s 15-point peace plan and vowed to continue resisting U.S. pressure, sending oil prices soaring - Brent crude rose 5.7 percent to $108 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate climbed 4.6 percent to $95.
As the controversy over his remarks deepens, social media remains divided, some seeing his exchange with Perino as harmless banter, while others call it another example of Trump trivializing serious matters.
