Donald Trump calls off livestream for Fort Hood shooter's execution by firing squad
Donald Trump has called off the livestream of the Fort Hood shooter's execution by firing squad.
Last week, it was announced that Nidal Hasan was going to be killed by firing squad on December 3, 2026, at Fort Hood, Texas.
The 56-year-old former Army major was found guilty of terrorism and murder after carrying out a shooting at Fort Hood on December 5, 2009.
He was convicted of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder after killing 12 US service members, a civilian, and injuring 32 others at the Texas Army base.
Trump cancels plans to livestream execution
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth previously announced that the execution would be livestreamed.
However, the decision sparked widespread backlash, prompting Trump to announce on Thursday (October 15) that the execution would no longer be broadcast.
While publicly streaming Hasan’s execution "might have been a strong deterrent for the World to witness how America deals with Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan," Trump said in a Truth Social post, "many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die, through streaming, or through any other visual device."
"He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed," the 80-year-old said.
He added that the families of the Fort Hood shooting victims will be able to view the execution in person if they choose.
