Donald Trump reportedly sniggered as he mocked Michelle Obama to a group of Republican donors.

In an audio recording allegedly obtained by The Washington Post, the former President also referred to Barack Obama as "Hussein" – his middle name – in derogatory tone.

According to the paper, the remarks were made during a speech at Mar-a-Lago and were met with roars of laughter.

It's alleged that the disrespectful comments came as Trump began criticizing Mrs. Obama for supporting voting rights activist Stacey Abrams – a Democratic opponent of Georgia governor, Brian Kemp.

The 74-year-old politician then went on to sarcastically refer to the former first lady as "beautiful", to which the assembled Republicans "laughed uproariously", per the Post.

According to the paper, Trump made the "somewhat uncharacteristic comment" about Mrs. Obama while also using her husband's middle name in a "suggestive" manner.

Calling his predecessor by his full name, Trump is believed to have told the group that "Barack Hussein Obama and the very beautiful Michelle Obama were there for…"

It was then that the donors reportedly laughed hysterically at Trump's use of the word "beautiful" to describe Mrs. Obama.

The paper added: "Michelle Obama’s appearance has often served as a punchline in some portions of the conservative Internet."

Also in the audio recording, the Republicans present at the event were wrongly told by Trump that Oprah Winfrey had "camped out in Atlanta" in support of Abrams during the election in 2018.

Trump claimed that Winfrey was there for "months" before then changing the subject to hit out at the Obamas.

Trump then reportedly went on to brand the Republican minority senate leader Mitch McConnell as a "dumb son of a b***** " for accepting the results of the 2020 election win, which he allegedly called "bulls**t".

The event, which saw the controversial Republican make a series of comments targeting various people, was part of a weekend of fundraising for the Republican National Committee (RNC), which took place in Florida.

According to Politico, an attendee said that the night was "horrible" and also described it as "long and negative".

They added: "It was dour. He didn’t talk about the positive things that his administration has done."
