Chilling 7-word threat father made in newly released 911 call before killing shooter inside Oregon elementary school
Moments before the man, now hailed a hero, fatally shot the teenager who killed a teacher and three students at an elementary school in Oregon last month; he muttered a chilling short message to a 911 call handler.
Local carpenter Kaylub Giamanco was on his way home for lunch when he spotted a teenager firing a shotgun at a pickup truck and climbing the Silver Rail Elementary School's fence.
The distraught dad quickly took action
Acting upon an instinct to protect his daughter, who attended the school, Giamanco retrieved a .40-caliber handgun from his truck console, loaded a magazine, and called 911 before making his way into the building.
This week, a recording of the call, which lasted little more than a minute, was released, revealing Giamanco's final thoughts before stopping the attacker in his tracks.
The 36-year-old dad told the emergency call handler that there was “someone with a gun” at his daughter's school.
Panicked, he added: “I have a gun and I will shoot them right now."
The operator urged him to wait for cops to arrive, saying: “Don’t do anything, let me get an officer there.”
Giamanco became increasingly frustrated as the two talked over each other, before letting a chilling short message slip. He told the 911 operator: “I’m about to go kill this kid.”
Seconds later, the shooter entered the school building, and the operator asked if he was shooting; shortly after Giamanco replied 'yes', the call abruptly ended.
Allegedly, the teenage attacker had shot his way through locked doors to get into the elementary school, killing three children and a teacher in a special needs classroom.
Another student and teacher were critically injured.
Heroic Giamanco stopped the killer in his tracks
Speaking to Oregon Public Broadcasting after the incident, Giamanco claimed that he heard children "pleading for their lives" inside the building.
Recalling how the event unfolded, he said: “I started hearing gunfire and I just started army crawling faster and faster, and I told myself this is probably the last thing that I’m ever going to do.”
According to his own report, the carpenter fired once at the gunman, which caused him to drop to the floor almost immediately. However, he reportedly reached for his weapon again, which is when Giamanco fired two more bullets, ultimately killing him.
Describing the terrifying moment, he said: “He was scrambling for his weapon.
“I looked at him and I shot him two more times to make sure that he couldn’t move because I was afraid of him shooting anybody else.”
The teen was later identified as 16-year-old Griffin J. John II.
Cops later praised Giamanco's quick thinking, claiming that his brave actions prevented further loss of life at the school with 400 students.
