An emotional video has gone viral on social media this week, which shows a FedEx worker breaking down after being gifted a new car.

FedEx employee, Darlene, who hails from Spartanburg in South Carolina, is 60-years-old. For the past seven years, she's started every morning at 4 am as a package handler. However, three months ago her car transmission and radiator broke which forced her to walk back home after work every day.

When her friend and co-worker, Josh Lewis saw Darlene walking along busy roads in town on her own, he started a GoFundMe for her. Working with a local dealership to buy Darlene a car, he and more than 100 well-wishers and colleagues managed to raise more than $7,000 (£5,500) to buy her a vehicle.

Josh later took to Facebook to share a video of the moment he presented Darlene with her new car, and she appears to be so touched by his kind gesture that she breaks down.

In the video, Josh can be heard stating: "There are a lot of people in this community that love you and care about you. You have inspired so many of us to do great things about going to work, supporting ourselves and doing what we have to do. Me and about 100 other people got together and we raised enough money to buy that car [with] cash for you today. We’re going to give you the car."

Josh later told USA Today: "I told her she’s just an inspiration. I know I don’t think I would walk 12 miles just to go to work or to come home from work on a daily basis."

Josh has also confirmed that two local businesses are offering Darlene free oil changes, while another is offering a free tire service.
