A Florida woman has been taken into custody following a law enforcement investigation into alleged illicit conduct involving a pet.
Malia Elizabeth Nummerdor, 38, was arrested by local authorities after footage surfaced that appeared to document acts of animal abuse inside her residence. The case came to light after initial claims were posted on social media platforms, prompting detectives to look into the matter.
Investigators with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office launched a formal inquiry after obtaining digital recordings and sworn statements connected to the incident.
Court records indicate that the primary evidence in the case originates from indoor security cameras that were placed throughout the property.
Following a review of the video files and a subsequent law enforcement interview, officials took formal legal action against the Port Charlotte resident.
The arrest has drawn significant attention from local authorities and community members alike due to the nature of the allegations. As legal proceedings move forward, several distinct elements define the current state of the investigation and the formal criminal charges.
Nummerdor was taken into custody on September 15 and charged with sexual activity involving animals. Under Florida law, this offense is classified as a second-degree felony, which carries a potential penalty of up to 15 years in prison upon conviction.
Authorities initiated the case after discovering related discussions online, which led them to establish contact with the individual who possessed the primary recordings.
The investigation relies heavily on footage provided by the suspect's estranged husband, Erik Nummerdor. According to court documents, he had originally set up two interior cameras to discover who was taking money from a coin container in his bedroom.
While examining those saved video files, he uncovered recordings that featured his wife and the family dog, named Ranger. He subsequently supplied police officers with digital screenshots and gave detectives direct access to a laptop containing the original video files.
During her police interview on September 15, Nummerdor identified herself in the videos and acknowledged that the pet belonged to her household.
While she acknowledged her presence in the video, she denied participating in any sexual acts, asserting instead that she was only petting the animal.
Investigators noted that she failed to offer a consistent explanation for what was displayed in the footage before she ended the interview to request an attorney.
Nummerdor also informed officers that the security equipment had been positioned without her consent. She claimed the video clips were recorded in 2024 and stated that her estranged husband had used them to threaten her.
Sheriff Bill Prummell released a statement addressing the incident: "There are only a few times in my career that I have been at a loss for words. This is one of those times. I simply cannot comprehend this behavior.
"No animal should ever be subjected to this kind of conduct, and you can be sure that we will take action when we learn about it here in Charlotte County.
"And then to smile in the mugshot? I don’t know what there is to smile about when you’ve been arrested for something as disgusting as this.”
Nummerdor remains booked at the Charlotte County Jail, with bond set at $35,000.
