A friend of the Florida mom who has been arrested after allegedly engaging in a "disgusting" sex act with the family dog has spoken out.
Malia Nummerdor was charged with engaging in sexual contact with an animal this week after her estranged husband, Erik Nummerdor, reported the alleged incident to police.
Erik told officials that he had installed two cameras inside the family home after money apparently began disappearing from a coin container.
But while looking at the footage from a camera in his bedroom, Erik claimed he discovered a recording involving the 38-year-old woman and their dog, Ranger.
"He stated the bedroom camera was visible, displayed a blinking red light, and was known to household members," a detective wrote in the affidavit. "The camera recorded continuously in rolling intervals, overwriting older footage."
Erik first took to Facebook to share the claims. He said he had photographic and video evidence of the alleged incident.
He later showed investigators photos captured by the camera and provided access to a laptop containing additional footage of the alleged encounter.
The affidavit states that the security video allegedly showed Malia "nude from the waist down, positioned with the dog in a manner consistent with sexual activity".
Police interviewed Malia on Tuesday (September 15) about the security video.
Cops revealed that she appeared impaired and acknowledged being under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
One account of the police report states that she reportedly admitted that she was the person shown in the footage with the dog, but denied that anything untoward had happened.
According to officials, Malia "could not provide a consistent explanation for what was seen on the camera".
She also claimed that Erik installed the cameras without her knowledge and accessed her social media accounts to post images and videos.
She argued that the recordings were made in 2024 and that Erik had previously threatened her with the videos.
Calls to a number listed for Erik were not immediately returned.
A friend of Malia, Bethany Flannery Knopf, has now spoken out on Facebook, questioning whether the allegations tell the full story.
"After reading the probable cause affidavit, I have to say that I personally do not believe we have the full story," she penned. "First and foremost, she was CHARGED, NOT CONVICTED. There is a huge difference, and people need to remember that before publicly condemning someone."
Knopf, who claims she went to school with Malia, also reflected on the person she knew before the allegations emerged.
"I went to school with her, and she never rubbed me as weirdo. She is a very pretty. I don't think she would have trouble finding a human being to be intimate with.
"Of course, that alone doesn't prove anything, but I think it's important to remember that the person being portrayed online is someone who has people who knew her before these allegations."
She also questioned the timeline described in the affidavit, noting Malia's claim that the footage was recorded in 2024.
"Another thing that really stands out to me is the timeline. The affidavit says the video was made in 2024, yet the arrest happened in 2026. Why it took approximately two years for this to be reported to law enforcement. I'm not saying I know the reason, and I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but I think it's a reasonable question to ask when looking at the timeline."
Knopf asked what could be established from the footage, while acknowledging her comments were based on what she had read.
"Then there's the video itself. From what I read, the video is not clear enough to show what took place. There is a difference between what someone claims a video shows and what the video actually proves. We should be careful about making accusations based on unclear footage."
She also alleged that Malia and Erik had been going through a difficult divorce and argued that the circumstances should be taken into consideration without suggesting they disproved the allegations.
"Anyone who has gone through a nasty divorce knows that people can sometimes go to great lengths to hurt the other person or try to ruin their life. That doesn't prove anyone's allegations are false, but I think the circumstances are important and deserve to be considered."
Knopf concluded: "I'm saying I don't believe we should automatically assume someone is guilty based on an arrest affidavit alone. CHARGED IS NOT CONVICTED. INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY."
Malia was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Charlotte County Jail.
Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell issued a statement addressing the arrest.
"There are only a few times in my career that I have been at a loss for words. This is one of those times. I simply cannot comprehend this behavior. No animal should ever be subjected to this kind of conduct, and you can be sure that we will take action when we learn about it here in Charlotte County," Prummell said in a statement.
He also spoke about Malia smiling in her booking photograph.
"And then to smile in the mugshot? I don’t know what there is to smile about when you’ve been arrested for something as disgusting as this," he added.
