A Florida mom who was accused of having sex with her dog has explained why the dog was filmed between her legs.
As widely reported, Malia Nummerdor was charged with engaging in sexual contact with an animal this week after her estranged husband, Erik Nummerdor, reported the alleged incident to police.
Erik told officials that he had installed two cameras inside the family home after money apparently began disappearing from a coin container.
But while looking at the footage from a camera in his bedroom, he claimed he found a recording involving the 38-year-old woman and their dog, Ranger.
"He stated the bedroom camera was visible, displayed a blinking red light, and was known to household members," a detective wrote in the affidavit. "The camera recorded continuously in rolling intervals, overwriting older footage."
Malia was arrested on September 15 and reportedly admitted to police that she was the person shown in the video with Ranger, but denied that anything sexual had happened, though officers said that her answers were often contradictory.
Police wrote in the arrest report that when Nummerdor "claimed she had merely been lying with and petting her elderly dog near its bed".
"When asked to clarify her physical position and the dog’s placement between her legs, Nummerdor was unable to provide any coherent or consistent explanation," police said, noting that she pointed out there was a second dog in the room.
She also claimed that her husband installed the cameras without her knowledge and accessed her social media accounts to post images and videos.
She argued that the recordings were made in 2024 and that Erik had previously threatened her with the videos.
Nummerdor's friends have now set up a fundraiser on SupportNow to raise $30,000 for the mom and her sons.
They have written in the description that the family has been "deeply affected" by the situation, adding: "They have been displaced from their home, their normal routines have been disrupted, and Malia is now facing significant legal costs while trying to navigate an incredibly uncertain time.
"Malia has lost both of her parents and grew up as an only child, so she does not have that immediate family support to lean on during a time like this.
"Instead, she is surrounded by close friends, most of whom she has known for decades, who care deeply about her and are doing everything they can to support her and her family through this situation," they continued.
The friends wrote that the mom needs "legal representation" to ensure she has the chance to address them fully through the proper legal process.
"This situation has also deeply affected her two young sons, who deserve privacy, stability, and as much normalcy as possible while the adults involved work through what comes next," they said.
"Funds raised will help with Malia’s legal expenses and immediate living needs while she navigates this disruption and the legal processes affecting her family."

As of the time of writing, $189.46 has been raised toward the $30,000 goal.
The mom was released from custody after paying a $35,000 bond.
